The I-Act Convention in Houston, Texas that I attended in June 2007 was a very enlightening experience. I-Act stands for International Association for Colon Hydrotherpy. We had many wonderful speakers and learned a great deal about digestion and the Colons funtions in the body.
One thing I came away with is the importance of the Pro biotic in the body. According to The Definitive Alternative Medicine Guide, "inside each of us live vast numbers of bacteria without which we could not remain in good health." Serveral thousand billion live in each of us, actually more than all the cells in our bodies. There are actually 400 species of bacteria in our bodies the majority living in the digestive tract. Some bacteria help maintain good health in the body while others play specific funtions help us to regain heal once it has been upset. The use of friendly bacterial suppliaments are known as probiotics, meaning "for life."
What I learned in Houston from a wonderful doctor named Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride MD's book Gut Psychology Syndrome, is that we are often born missing the proper amount of flora in our colons, a byproduct of increasingly denatured diets handed down genetically from our mothers. She writes with the introduction of sugars and milled grains the western diet for the past 100 plus years has become increasing more dependant on harmful chemicals that create a dsybiotic relationship with the health of the colon. Dr. Campbell-McBride writes that Autism, Dyspraxia, ADD, Dyslexia, ADHD, depression and schizophrenia are linked to low "gut flora," and in research from 1998 by DR. Andrew Wakefield, a gastroenterologist at the Royal Free Hospital in London, England produced with his team the connection between cronic inflammatory bowel disease and autism. He discovered through an enteroscopic biopsy something that he later named Ileal-Lymphoid-Nodular Hyperplasia and Non-Specific Colitis. What this means to us is in the Illeum, the last portion of the small intestine, where not much food absorbtion is done there are a "large number of lymph nodes, called Peyer's patches, which are small round or bean shaped structures, ranging in size from 1 to 25mm. These lymph nodes are a very important part of our immune system." Dr. Campbell-McBride goes on to write about the function of these lymph nodes: "The first function is filtering the lymph (tissue liquid), coming from the ileum and removing bacteria, viruses, fungi, dead cells (including cancer cells) and various toxins from it." She writes: "this is a good place to look at what particular infectious agents might be lurking in your intestines because the lymph nodes are like a prison for these viruses, bacteria dead cells and fungi--if they cannot destroy them, they imprison them." So when gastro-enterologist perform endoscopies they are taking samples of these lymph nodes for examination. "The second function," writes Dr. Campbell-McBride, "of lymph nodes is production of lymphocytes-a large group of immune system cells, a major function of which is fighting infections."
Dr. Campbell-McBride writes further about inflammation in the colon ie. Colitis. this is a work in progress, please excuse the gap here I need to work now and will return to this page. I believe so much in Dr. Campbell McBrides work I am selling her book and Donna Gates' book The Body Ecology Book, +
because I think they are key to healthy gut-flora activity. I will work on this page progressively until I have gleened what I'm after, so sorry it's not finished. Lisa
June 2008's convention in Las Vegas was also very informative. We learned that Autism is now 1 in 94 American children but is responding well to the Pro Biotic diet. Go to BodyEcologydiet.com and check out the new sugar substitute Lakanto. Donna was actually at our convention and spoke about adrenal fatigue and how it relates to us in modern times. We also got to see what amalgams and mercury do to the bodies of sheep and monkeys. So if you're considering alternative dentistry, which very advisable you can look up Kirk Youngman in Danville, Ca.. I also learned that California's legislation lost by one vote to legalize colon hydrotherapy in the State taking it out of FDA regulation and bringing it into state regulation. I will give an address in Southern Ca.
to send donations to work with the Assembly to help support this field and bring it into state regulation. So far the only states that are regulated are Texas and Florida. In Washington State last year Colon Hydrotherapist were told they needed to close their doors by Dec. 30th why? because Washington did not want Colon Hydrotherapy to become insurable. The very same thing happened in the 1970's and 80's to the Chiropractic field and eventually Chiropractors were able to use insurance and deemed respectable. |
